This article aims to examine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Learning model of the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) type in increasing student engagement in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SMP Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo. The background of this study is based on the importance of student engagement as an indicator of the success of the learning process, which is often still low in classroom practice. The research method used is quasi-experimental research with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class using the STAD model and the control class using conventional methods. Data were collected through observation, student engagement questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using a t-test to examine the differences in results between the two groups. The results of the study indicated that the implementation of the STAD learning model significantly increased student engagement in PAI learning. Students in the experimental class were more active in group discussions, had higher motivation, and showed more consistent participation compared to the control class. These findings indicate that the STAD model is effective in creating a collaborative learning environment and enhancing the quality of student engagement. Therefore, it can be concluded that the STAD-type Cooperative Learning model is an effective learning strategy to increase student engagement in Islamic Education learning and can serve as an alternative for teachers in developing more participatory learning methods oriented toward improving the quality of Islamic education.
